Obtain a researcher ID
Thoughts, tips and advice when applying for an ORCID ID.
ORCID - an author identification
An ORCID looks like this: 0000-0002-1346-1530
The purpose of ORCID is to create a global register with unique IDs in order to consistently identify researchers for publishers, research funders, higher education institutions and other research-related actors.
Benefits of an international researcher ID:
- An ID that follows you if you change your institution or name
- facilitate communication between the author and the publisher;
- communication between researchers and funders is facilitated in project applications and reporting

Here you can create an ORCID iD
Have you forgotten your ORCID?
- Search for your name in Diva
- Then click on any publication. Under your name, you can see your ORCID iD.
Link your information
You should link your information in databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed with your ORCID ID.
Here's how:
Link your information from databases such as Scopus, Web of Science and PubMed by logging in to orcid.org. Your publications published before you acquired an ORCID will also receive the connection.
- To make the most of your ORCID, fill in your affiliation / employment: Höghögskolan Väst

- Click on Add works / Search & link and scroll down in the list to ResearcherID or Scopus and allow the connection.

- And Authorize:

Creative commons
ORCID is available with a Creative Commons license, which means that other companies and services can use the information without having to ask for special permission. This is a difference from, for example, Researcher ID from Web of Science, where the information is owned by the company and cannot be used by others.
