Quick fixes

  • Do not open the database's website directly, use the links in the database list.
  • Try clearing the browser cache or try using a different browser.
  • As a member of the public or a student at another university, you cannot access University West's digital resources from home, but need to visit our library to borrow a computer.

How to log in to a database

When you are going to use one of the library's databases, you need to get access from the library, so always start by starting from bibliotek.hv.se/en. There you can search for the article/book/publication in our search box. Once you have found what you are looking for and clicked on the title of the material, you will get a login page. In this case, you should use the username that consists of the first two letters of your first and last name, as well as four digits (e.g. buba0001). Don't add @student.hv.se. Use the same password as you have on Canvas.

You can also click your way to the database you want via our database list.

Log in to your library account

Log in to your library account

  • As a student or employee at University West , you log in in the same way as you do to the university's other systems with a username (e.g. buba0001) and password.

  • As a member of the public or a student at another Swedish university, you must log in with your personal identity number (12 digits) and PIN code.
    Create a public account.

  • As a staff member in NU healthcare (VGR), you use your VGR ID and PIN code to log in. NU staff should never use their social security number.
Further instructions for you as NU staff.

PubMed - problems with access to articles

Sometimes our users experience problems with lost access to full text when creating an account in PubMed. To move around this, a temporary solution is to google your way to PubMed to be able to search in the database outside the university (not logged in to the library's resources). Full text can be accessed using an extension called Libkey Nomad. Alternatively, you can search for the full text via Google Scholar.

If you want to access the full text in PubMed and do not need to save searches in an account in the database, then be sure to go to PubMed via the library's database list to get the right access. In this case, you can save the searches in another way, e.g. in tables in Word.
