What is NViVo?

Examples of areas of use for NViVo can be analyses of interviews, websites, social media, audio, images and film. The program handles a large number of different research methodologies.

University West has a campus license for NVivo. This license allows both employees and students to install NVivo on their personal computers. Follow the instructions below to obtain the software and license.

Note! Your NVivo license and software need to be updated every year. Follow the instructions below to update .

If you already have an NViVo 12 account, do not update it and follow the instructions below if you need to update the software and license.

Download NViVo

You should now use version 14 as it is the only version we have a license for.

Get and Update NViVo - Here's how it works:

  1. To start the process, surf to https://portal.mynvivo.com/account/licence-registration

  2. Log in with your existing NVivo login or create a new account. You can use either your private email address or @hv.se/@student.hv.se

  3. You need to enter a license key (numeric code) that is replaced every year. The code should be entered here.  To access this year's code, click on the document below
    Code valid until 2026-06-30

  4. After entering the code of the year, you will receive a personal license and can download the correct version.

  5. Note! If you already have an account (NViVo 12) and have updated, you also need to transfer your files and projects from the old version, see instructions below.

Import your previous files/projects from NViVo 12 to new version

  1. Open NViVo, click File, click Open >Browse
  2. When the window with Explorer opens, check that it says NViVo Projects as the default at the bottom right of the dialog box.
  3. Select the projects you want to open and click Open
  4. The upgraded project dialog box opens
