How to reserve, borrow and return books
Everything you need to know about how to borrow materials from the University Library
Start by searching for the book's location
The library's books are listed either by number or letter code by subject, and you must search the library's search service to find the exact code. For example:
808
.027
Neville
2017
Find the books with the exact numbers first via the ends of the bookshelves, then via the white sticker that is on each book. Start by looking for the right numbers, then alphabetically for Neville and finally by year 2017.
If you are inside the library premises, look for screens that say "SEARCH HERE!", these are our search computers where you search for everything that the library gives access to.
Time to borrow
Lending machines are located at the library's entrance, the 2nd floor of the university, and by the library's elevator on floor 3. Log in with your West card or Swedish social security number and PIN code (can be changed via My Account).
You can choose whether you want a receipt for your loans as an email or paper.
Read more about loan periods, reloans and loan rules
Material that is marked as reference literature and journals cannot be borrowed or taken out of the library.
Reserve books
You can reserve books that are on the shelf or on loan. To make a reservation, search for the book in the library's search service, click on Access options and then Reserve the book. Log in to verify who you are and then you can Confirm reservation to place the order.
You will receive an email when the book has been picked up and placed on the waiting shelf.
NB! The reservations are picked once a day. If you arrive before this time to pick up the book, it may still be on the shelf. A book that is still on the shelf can be borrowed from another person.
Get reserved books
Reserved books can be picked up on the take-away shelf on the right when you enter the library - borrow them from the lending machine. Books that have been ordered as interlibrary loans from other libraries can be picked up at our information desk.
You can have another person pick up your ordered book
As a distance student, you can have the book sent to your home
Return
When the library is open, you can return your books in the self-service machine on the 2nd floor. Select the Return option on the screen, and then scan the book.
When the library is closed, there are two places to return
In the return boxes on the 2nd floor outside the library's entrance. You can use these when the doors to the University are open or if you enter with your West Card.
In the outdoor return box at the entrance to the parking lot.
